So far this unit has been good value. It utililzes a front-illuminated Blue Plus Kodak KAF-8300 sensor 22½ mm on the diagonal and giving 3362 x 2504 5.4μm square pixels. When used with the Vixen R200SS 8 inch f/4 astrograph it produces a field of view approx. 1¼ x 1 degrees in size. It can be cooled very quickly down to 40 degrees celcius below ambient temperature to reduce noise while imaging.
The camera is controlled by the Atik image capturing program Artemis Capture via a USB cable from the observatory laptop. Backup service by the UK manufacturer is very good. The camera was returned to them for repair after I inadvertently damaged the desiccant holder. They rectified the problem without charge.
