GStar-Ex3 Colour Camera Images
|
Imaging is only of secondary importance for this setup and is mainly intended to keep a record of objects seen on screen during a night's viewing. Thus the images do not compare with "proper" long exposures taken with an auto-guided cooled camera such as the Atik 383L Mono. Nevertheless, they do show that the viewer gets a reasonably clear and detailed look at many of the deep sky objects that are only seen faintly at the eyepiece of telescopes most often used by amateurs. To date, many of the images taken are repeats of targets already imaged with the Vixen R130sf, starting with this two panel image of the Moon.

As with the Vixen R130sf, the Sky-Watcher PDS 150mm is mounted on the HEQ5 Pro equatorial mount and the camera is used without guiding. Provided that the mount is properly polar aligned, its right ascension motor drive is sufficiently good to allow exposures of up to 4 minutes duration to be regularly obtained. Some post-processing has usually been applied to the raw images from the camera.
